The Best Time to Capture Your Newborn
Welcoming a new baby into your family is an incredibly special time, and capturing those first moments is something you will treasure forever. One of the most common questions I receive is, "When is the best time to photograph my newborn?" While there is no strict rule, I typically capture newborns around the two-week mark. However, because my approach is natural and relaxed, there really is no rush if you would prefer to wait.
Why Two Weeks?
Around two weeks old, newborns are still in that sleepy and curly phase, making it easier to gently position them in comfortable natural poses. Their delicate features are still fresh, and they tend to be more settled, which helps create those dreamy, peaceful images that parents love.
A Natural and Flexible Approach
Unlike highly posed newborn photography, my style is all about capturing natural connections and authentic moments. This means that if you prefer to wait a little longer, that is completely okay. Some parents choose to have their baby photographed at four, five or even ten weeks old, and the images are just as beautiful. Older newborns are often more alert, offering sweet eye contact and more expressions (maybe even some smiles).
Planning Ahead for Your Session
To ensure availability, I recommend booking your newborn session around three to four months in advance at least. This gives us time to plan and allows you to relax knowing your session is secured. If your baby arrives early or a little later than expected, we can always adjust the session date to make sure it works for you and your family.
Capturing This Precious Stage
No matter when you choose to have your session, the most important thing is documenting this fleeting time in a way that feels right for you. Whether your baby is a few days or a few weeks old, we will create beautiful, timeless images that you will cherish for years to come.
If you are expecting and would love to capture this special chapter, I would love to chat about your newborn session. Reach out to book ahead and let’s create something beautiful together.
