FAQ
When should I book?
I recommend booking newborn and maternity sessions as early as you feel comfortable. I usually book my newborn sessions 1 - 2 weeks after your due date and then adjust if we need to depending on when bub actually arrives. I usually book maternity sessions between 30 and 35 weeks.
At the moment, I am generally booked out 2 to 3 months in advance, however some last minute availability does pop up do to reschedules. I recommend reaching out a little earlier if you are after a weekend date as these tend to go the fastest.
My baby is older. Is it too late to capture them?
No, absolutely not! I photograph babies at any age and work with you and your little one on the day to get the best from your session. I know how to read your baby's cues and follow their lead. As bubs get older, we might get less sleepy shots but we are much more likely to get smiles and other beautiful expressions.
What happens if it rains?
I will get in touch a couple of days before the shoot (after consulting the weather forecast) and we will make an action plan. Generally I like to wait until the morning of your session to make the call, especially given Sydney weather has been so unpredictable. If it is looking wet and soggy, we will look at other suitable dates.
What time do the sessions take place?
Newborn sessions run at around 10 am in your home.
Family and maternity sessions run at golden hour! The hour before sunset or the time just before and after sunrise. This light is the best of the day, the most flattering and helps to avoid harsh and unflattering shadows.
What should I wear?
Once you have booked your session you will receive a detailed session guide with lots of tips of how to prepare for your session and styling advice. You will also get access to my client closet for mummas.
Summer sessions are close to my kids' bedtime, do you have any tips to prepare them for late sessions?
Adjust Nap and Meal Times: Kids can often work on their own schedule, I totally get that, but adjusting nap and meal times if you can, can help to energise your little ones for their session. Push that last nap of the day back a little so they wake a bit later in the day, and give them a nice big dinner before your session to make sure their tummies are full.
Plan for a Snack: Bring along some light snacks and drinks just in case your little one gets peckish, especially if the shoot falls during your usual dinner time. I suggest dry snacks so that any mess can by easily brushed away.
Bring Light Layers: I know, its summer, chances are we won't need any layers! But on the off chance it is a slightly cooler evening once that sun drops, bring them just in case.
Bring Comfort Items: If you're worried about the kids getting restless, pack a favorite toy or blanket to help them stay happy and relaxed during the shoot. I absolutely love when kids include personal and sentimental items in their sessions, I think it is a sweet memory to capture, however only bring toys if you're happy for them to feature in the images. If you would prefer the Hot Wheels or well loved bunny were not in the photos, it would be best to leave them in the car.
Embrace the Adventure and Go with the Flow: This is really the most important tip! I know planning for a shoot can feel stressful, but letting go and embracing the moment really is the best way to keep the mood light and fun. Explain to your kids that your family is going on an adventure after dinner, and even staying up past bed time, this keeps it exciting for your little ones. Once kids are outside, surrounded by nature in the fresh air and with their family who are ready to have fun, they really do stay distracted and interested enough to forget it's way past bed time.
