Why photographers love golden hour!

If you’ve ever scrolled through those dreamy family photos where everything feels wrapped in warm, golden light, chances are, they were taken during golden hour. It’s that magic pocket of time just before sunset (or right after sunrise) when the light is soft, glowy, and makes everything look like pure magic.

But here’s the thing, once daylight savings hits, golden hour is later than most toddlers’ usual routine but I promise it’s worth the later bedtime, and with a few simple tricks, your fam can enjoy a golden hour session.

Shift the naps

Even 20 minutes later than usual can help your little one last longer into the evening. If you can, sneak in an extra arvo rest.

Feed them first

Hungry toddler usually equals an unhappy toddler. Aim for an early dinner or a good snack before you head out.

Keep the day chilled

Try to avoid big activities beforehand. A calm, easy day means they’ll have more energy left for the fun at sunset.

Don’t sweat the bedtime

One late night won’t undo your routine. Toddlers bounce back quickly, and honestly, the photos you’ll get are worth it a hundred times over.

Embrace the chaos

Toddlers are unpredictable, and that’s half the fun. Whether your little one is running wild, glued to your hip, or switching between the two, those real, unfiltered moments are the ones that shine. And if I've learned anything, once your little one is outside and we all bring the sense of adventure with us, they're almost always having too much fun and are too distracted by their surroundings to realise they're up past bedtime.

Yes, golden hour means staying up later than usual, but the light, the memories, and the photos are pure magic!
